My watches are insured through a rider on my home owner's policy. The cost is about 1% of the insured value per year. I have the watches insured at 100% of what a new watch would cost. My insurance company requires an appraisal from an authorized Rolex dealer.

That's not $5k per item, that's $5k for ALL jewelry in the house. Jewelers Mutual runs at $140/$10,000 in Canada with a $0 deductible. X4. I got insurance today from Jewellers Mutual. It's definitely the best option out there. $300 cheaper than RBC per year.
